Baylor Trucking Wreath One Kenworth T700 leads convoy for Wreaths Across America

Monday, December 20, 2010 by Palmer Sales Team
Palmer Trucks Kenworth of Cincinnati would like to salute the Baylor Trucking organization to their committment to remembering and honoring Veterans. A worthly mission for those who sacrifice. Below are the news stories of the journey, or check out Baylor Trucking on Facebook for the pictures.

Wreaths Across America

Kenworth T700 Baylor Trucking
Published December, 11 2010

The Ride of Pride, an 18-wheeler owned by Schneider National that is decorated to honor the men and women in the armed services, made its second annual trip to Arlington National Cemetery for this year’s ceremony. Tony Cunningham, a Schneider National driver associate since 2002 who retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, was behind the wheel of the Ride of Pride.

Cunningham began the 2010 Wreaths Across America journey on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Harrington, Maine, headquarters for the Veterans Honor parade. The convoy of trucks gathered to load semitrailers with wreaths and made stops at schools and cemeteries as it traveled down Route 1 to Washington, D.C.

Baylor Trucking’s “Wreath One” led the convoy of nearly 30,000 wreaths to be laid at Arlington. Baylor President and Army veteran Bob Baylor drove “Wreath One,” a flag-adorned Kenworth truck, throughout the weeklong processional of 10 states. “This is an experience that has touched my heart as a veteran, and I am inspired by our country’s patriotism,” says Baylor. “It is wonderful to see school-age children to WII Veterans waving flags, singing ‘God Bless America’ and showing pride in our Red, White and Blue.”

“It has been a life-changing experience to participate.” says Cari Baylor, who rode with her father, Bob. “Every stop on the processional etches another memory on my heart of the families and soldiers who have shown bravery to keep us free.” Bob, his wife, Beth, and Cari joined thousands of volunteers on Saturday, Dec. 11, to lay the memorial wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery. Wreath ceremonies continued at The Pentagon and the Vietnam Veterans, Korean War and WWII memorials.

This year, Wreaths Across America donated more than 319,000 memorial wreaths for ceremonies held in every state, as well as Pearl Harbor and 24 national cemeteries overseas. This year, every victim of the 9/11 tragedy was honored with a tribute wreath. Baylor Trucking also donated trucks to cover the national cemeteries throughout the Midwest.

Baylor Trucking and Schneider National both participated in last weekend’s campaign for Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization that promotes veterans’ remembrance. Its mission is to remember and honor veterans by placing wreaths at the graves of fallen military members during the holidays – a time of traditional family gatherings – and teach children that we are able to gather, in peace, because of the many sacrifices made by military men and women. Through the effort and in one short week, tens of thousands of wreaths were placed nationwide.

Kenworth T470 Snowplows To Clear Roads

Thursday, December 16, 2010 by Palmer Sales Team
Snow is flying in Indiana, and our neighbors to the North are plowing snow with the Kenworth T470. Check out these great links for your research on the Kenworth T470 Snow Plow Truck for sale

Need a Snow Plow installed ? contact our team at the Palmer Fab Shop in Indianapolis.
From Kenworth's website

MILWAUKEE, Wis., Dec. 10, 2010 – As a former truck driver, Dan Goeden knows the quality of Kenworth trucks. “How they hold up, how they drive, their quality – it’s the Kenworth heritage,” he said.

As director of fleet management for Milwaukee County, which encompasses 1,190 square miles and covers 19 cities and villages with a population base of nearly 1 million, Goeden’s department operates 35 Kenworth T470s purchased through Wisconsin Kenworth. The T470s serve as snowplows during Milwaukee’s snow season (November-April), and as dump trucks with 5- to 7-yard bodies in the spring and summer. All told, the county runs 123 class 6-8 trucks, plowing nearly 2,200 freeway miles, plus county trunk roads.

FMCSA Launches New Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) Program

Monday, December 13, 2010 by Palmer Sales Team

Fed Motor Career website

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA has now launched the Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) program.

The centerpiece of CSA is the Safety Measurement System (SMS), which will analyze all safety-based violations from inspections and crash data to determine a commercial motor carrier’s on-road performance. The new safety program will allow FMCSA to reach more carriers earlier and deploy a range of corrective interventions to address a carrier’s specific safety problems.

The SMS uses seven safety improvement categories called BASICs to examine a carrier’s on-road performance and potential crash risk. The BASICs are Unsafe Driving, Fatigued Driving (Hours-of-Service), Driver Fitness, Controlled Substances/Alcohol, Vehicle Maintenance, Cargo-Related and Crash Indicator. Under FMCSA’s old measurement system, carrier performance was assessed in only four broad categories.

By looking at a carrier’s safety violations in each SMS category, FMCSA and state law enforcement will be better equipped to identify carriers with patterns of high-risk behaviors and apply interventions that provide carriers the information necessary to change unsafe practices early on.

Safety interventions include early warning letters, targeted roadside inspections and focused compliance reviews that concentrate enforcement resources on specific issues identified by the SMS.

FMCSA will continue to conduct onsite comprehensive compliance reviews for carriers with safety issues across multiple BASICs. And, where a carrier has not taken the appropriate corrective action, FMCSA will invoke strong civil penalties.

To learn more about the new CSA program, visit http://csa.fmcsa.dot.gov/. To see the new SMS, visit http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/sms.   PLEASE NOTE: For parties interested in downloading data for more than one carrier, please visit the SMS Download page at: http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/SMS/Data/Downloads.aspx

Safe Driver Hours Website Educates and Provides Resources

Friday, December 10, 2010 by Palmer Sales Team

ATA LAUNCHES NEW HOURS-OF-SERVICE WEBSITE

 Safe Driver Hours

ATA has launched – a new website designed to serve two purposes.

First, the new site is intended to educate the press and the public on the remarkable highway safety performance of the trucking industry over the last seven years—the same period trucking has operated under the revised HOS rules. The site includes safety facts and statistics, much of it in easy to read charts and graphs, showing the industry’s dramatic safety improvement since 2004 when the revised HOS rules first became effective.

The second purpose of the site is to provide easy-to-use tools and resources for the trucking and transportation industries (i.e., drivers, carriers, shippers, etc.) to help the industry actively engage in the upcoming HOS rulemaking process.

FMCSA Makes Changes in CSA 2010

FMCSA Makes Changes in CSA 2010
By Truckinginfo.com Staff

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is making some changes in the CSA 2010 program it will roll out next month.

The agency announced yesterday that based on feedback from the industry and the enforcement community, it is going to address concerns about how the system evaluates carriers in the Cargo-Related safety category, which measures compliance with load securement procedures and hazardous materials requirements. It also said it will change the severity weighting in Cargo-Related category.

FMCSA acknowledged concerns that the Cargo-Related category over-represents certain industry segments and creates a potentially misleading safety alert warning. It said it will fix the problem by adjusting the severity weights.

The agency also is looking into the impact on different industry segments of a carrier's exposure in this category. Pending completion of that study, the agency will withhold carriers' performance percentiles and intervention status from the public. The data still will be available to the carrier and enforcement personnel.

Another change concerns the way the agency displays data in the CSA Safety Management System. The agency will no longer use the term "deficient" to identify a score that triggers an intervention. Instead, it will say "alert."

The intent is to clarify that percentiles above the intervention threshold indicate that the carrier is in line for intervention, and do not imply that safety fitness has been determined already.

The changes were applauded by American Trucking Associations.

"ATA continues to support the objectives of CSA 2010, FMCSA's safety monitoring and measurement program, and we are pleased with the Agency's decision to continue working on its Cargo-Related BASIC to get it right before it's made public," said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves in a statement.

The agency is strongly encouraging carriers who have not done so to go to the CSA 2010 web site to review their safety data.

First Observer Program at PGATES!!

Monday, November 15, 2010 by Palmer Sales Team

First Observer  is one of our nation's transportation security programs, and is one tool, among a comprehensive set of measures, authorized by Congress to protect the nation's critical infrastructure against risks associated with potential terrorist attacks. This voluntary counter-terrorism training program is being provided to transportation professionals, and others.

Participants are trained to Observe, Assess and Report things they think may be preparations for acts of terrorism intended to destroy our infrastructure, harm our citizens, and effect our jobs.

As a nation, we may feel safe but nearly every week we read or hear of ongoing attempts to attack our country. We cannot become complacent; we must continue to foil these attempts. How can we help do this? We can participate in the First Observer program.

It only takes one person to Observe, Assess and Report something that will break the chain of events leading up to an attack on our country. This is what the First Observer training teaches you. Becoming a First ObserverT will help protect our families, our country, and our jobs by preventing disruptions within the transportation system.

Palmer Group's Annual Truck and Equipment Show helping Community Caring and Sharing

Saturday, November 13, 2010 by Palmer Sales Team
Palmer Group's Annual Truck and Equipment Show is Free and Open the Public and is asking for assistance for local charity. We will accepting food and toys to benefit this organization.

Community Caring and Sharing is a not-for-profit organization
that focuses on community needs that historically have not been
met by government or government-funded agencies. Founded
over twenty years ago by a small group of housewives,
Community Caring and Sharing (CCS) first focused on providing
food and clothing to needy families in the near south-side
community of Mars Hill. Today, CCS continues to provide food
and clothing to needy families not only in the Mars Hill area, but
also to families referred to CCS by townships, county agencies
and churches throughout greater Indianapolis. Additionally, CCS
partnering with The Indianapolis Foundation, provides free
educational programs and for over fifteen years CCS has assisted
the local Marine Corp. unit with its Toys for Tots program by
identifying and screening needy families and by distributing the
appropriate toys to each family. CCS for many years operated
out of small, make-shift facilities, such as a church basement,
storage units, and a converted residence. In 2000, a successful
Indianapolis business man, Eldon Palmer, generously donated to
CCS a brick two-story, former school building at 2830 S. Holt
Road, in the Mars Hill area. After renovation of the building,
CCS moved into it in 2002. Renovation of the building is ongoing
with the assistance of Mr. Palmer, his business associates,
local trade unions and other community-minded organizations
and citizens who choose to make a difference.
