Palmer Leasing is seeking an individual for the following: Leasing Division Office Manager with duties including but not limited to supervising office employees to ensure accurate and timely fulfillment of responsibilities, filing timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, permits, licensing, renewals, and other lease related duties as needed.

Duties would include Manages a variety of general office activities personally or through subordinates. Analyzes and organizes office operations and procedures such as bookkeeping, preparation of payrolls, personnel, information management, filing systems, and other clerical services.

Prepares composite reports for the guidance of management. Maximizes office productivity through proficient use of the following computer applications: Microsoft Office, DSI Dealer Software Inc., Accounting, Parts Service and Leasing Software.

This year the Safety & Maintenance Council is offering a full agenda on interesting and relevant topics that impact your day to day business.  We kick it off on May 9 in the afternoon and end prior to noon on May 10. We also have a block of rooms at Sheraton North for those of you staying.

We encourage IMTA carrier members to complete the forms and compete with other carrier members for recognition, bragging rights and a commemorative, personalized plaque you can proudly display for all associates and customers to see!

The Safety Professional of the Year nominations will be reviewed by the SMC and will be awarded based on the criteria noted in the form.  This safety professional needs to be an IMTA member and exhibit safety behavior he/she lives by on a daily basis.  You know you have one so you might as well give him/her a chance to compete against the many other members and give your employee a chance to feel deservingly proud when honored at the Conference.  The person nominating (does not need to be employed with a carrier) and the winner (needs to be employed with a Fleet service and/or carrier) will receive free admission to the Spring Safety Conference.  Of course, the winner will not know this, we have to keep that part a secret.

The Indiana Department of Transportation continues its march toward gaseous fueling, working with compressed natural gas and with propane, for which the infrastructure may be more economically established.

INDOT has converted 528 of its older vehicles to gasoline-propane bi-fuel, and fuels them at a network of more than 100 autogas facilities around the state. Conversions were performed by Impco Automotive (Booth 5465) in Union City, Ind.

More recently, Impco converted new 46 Chevrolet Silverado pickups to gasoline-propane bi-fuel for INDOT, says technical services division director Joe Rudolf.

Most recently, INDOT has secured $640,000 from the U.S. EPA and will be going to bid for 40 dedicated-propane vehicles, medium to heavy duty. The EPA grant will help offset the incremental cost of the conversions as it augments approximately $3.2 million from INDOT for the base vehicles.

“We’re not asking for the farm,” Rudolph told Fleets & Fuels last week. “We’re just asking for a fair amount.”

On the CNG side of gaseous fuels, INDOT operates 19 Kenworth dump trucks with 8.9-liter ISL G engines from Cummins Westport. Currently 16 of the trucks are here in Indianapolis – where they were on hand for snow-plow duty during the Super Bowl – and three are in Evansville. “That’s where the public CNG infrastructure exists, so that’s where the fleet exists,” Rudolph says.

Kenworth Truck Company has expanded its medium-duty product line with the introduction of the new Kenworth K270 Class 6 and Kenworth K370 Class 7 cabovers targeted at urban-delivery companies.

“We’re excited to bring Kenworth quality to the cabover market,” said Gary Moore, Kenworth general manager. “Kenworth’s new K270 and K370 cabovers offer excellent maneuverability, durability, styling and ease of service for customers operating in urban operations.”

Applications for the K270 and K370 include pick-up and delivery, lease/rental, towing/recovery, landscaping, furniture, and food processing and distribution that require a highly maneuverable truck with 18- to 26-foot van body size, stake bed, or roll-on/roll-off bed. The 63.4-inch BBC (front bumper to back of the cab) on the K270 and K370 provides a 55-degree wheel cut for excellent maneuverability.

The 33,000-lb. GVWR Kenworth K370 cabover will be offered in a 4x2 Class 7 truck configuration, and built on a North American-based chassis very similar to that of the rugged Kenworth T370 conventional. The K370 will feature the 6.7-liter PACCAR PX-6 engine with a standard 220 hp rating and 520 lb-ft of maximum torque. Optional ratings are 240 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque and 250 hp with 660 lb-ft. The K370 will be available with Allison 2500 HS and RDS 5-speed transmissions.

The 12-volt supplied chassis will consist of 10-1/4-in., 120,000 PSI (pounds per square inch) steel frame rails; a wheelbase range of 166 inches to 214 inches; mechanical rear suspension; 45-gallon fuel tank; and horizontal aftertreatment system with a 6.6 gallon DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) tank.
